I’m 30, and married!

I recently went on a four-week trip to the Philippines, with an exciting three-day stopover in Los Angeles. During this trip, I celebrated my 30th birthday, got married, bought my mom her dream car, and explored a new city. It was a whirlwind of joy and unforgettable experiences.

My wedding planning started last May after I got engaged. We needed a year to save money, plan the theme, and organize everything to ensure our loved ones could come. It was a big task that took up a lot of my time, but I loved every moment of it.

Planning a wedding in another country had its challenges. The time difference made it hard to communicate with vendors, and the cultural differences in wedding traditions were a learning experience. I made a 29-page PowerPoint to show my vision and shared it with my wedding organizers. Some things went as planned, while others needed adjustments.

We had to make several compromises. We changed the color palette to match the available decorations, picked a different location due to unforeseen issues, and altered the bridal gown because, for the most part, it couldn’t fit me! There were tough moments, like when our initial venue fell through, I couldn’t help but cry. But in the end, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the new venue was logistically even better!

Planning a dream wedding is hard but worth it! Having the support of family and friends made all the difference.

    The Crystal Caves

The Crystal Caves are one of Cayman’s natural tourist  attractions located in a lush tropical forest. Amongst the forest and caves are captivating tropical plant and animal life. Millions of years ago, the caves were all underwater. As time passed, sea levels began to lower and land became visible. The caves were formed due to water erosion. These were used as hideouts or hurricane shelters by the pirates hundreds of years ago (yes, pirates of the Caribbean were actually a real thing!), and according to legends some of their treasures were hidden here! I went to see the site like around a month or two ago before the pandemic went crazy and I was with two other cruise tourists. Our jolly tour guide would every…

Toronto Day 5: Black Friday and NBA Game

My co-worker Paula and I had planned to meet on Saturday, but we decided to change the schedule to Friday morning. We had no specific plans for the morning except for shopping for Black Friday. We headed to Vaughan Mills outlet mall early in the morning to avoid the long lines. However, I could only buy four items from Kate Spade because the crowds were insane and the lines were too long. At times, it seemed like it wasn’t worth the wait and that I should have just shopped online instead. I can understand buying in bulk for retail stores, but if you’re like us and only want to buy one or two items, it’s not worth the wait (unless you want something limited edition!)….

    Quick update

Hey guys! How have you been? It’s been a while! *blows dust off this blog* I have been surprisingly busy the past few days especially with work. The economy is slowly getting back on its feet in this side of the world. In response to COVID-19 crisis, the Cayman Islands government has allowed residents, regardless of age, to withdraw at least 25% of their pensions. Guess what happened? Locals are shopping now more than ever and spending tons of their money on new stuff such as home renovations, appliances, air conditioning, and what not. As you may all know, I work at an air conditioning and appliance business so sales has been crazy like it’s the holiday season. Can you imagine, in some parts of…

I Didnโ€™t Expect Giselle to Haunt Me โ€” But She Did

Lately, Iโ€™ve been watching Natalia Osipovaโ€™s performance of Giselle, andโ€ฆ wow. I didnโ€™t expect to feel so much watching it, but I did. I still do. It wasnโ€™t just the dancing (though yes, she moves like sheโ€™s made of moonlight and memory). It was everything โ€” the music, the stillness, the way love and heartbreak and grace can live in one story, one body, one breath. Thereโ€™s something about Giselle that lingers with you โ€” like the echo of a song long after the final note fades. You think you’re just watching a ballet. But then it stays. Quietly. Gently. Like a memory you didnโ€™t know meant something until it started whispering back. Maybe it’s the way she loves โ€” fully, without hesitation. Maybe it’s…

Our Memorable Christmas and New Year’s Trip to Florida

It’s been a long time since I last posted! It feels so good to be writing on my blog again. Can you believe it’s almost April already? Time flies by fastโ€”everything feels like a blur these days! But let me take a moment to backtrack and share about our unforgettable Christmas and New Year’s trip to Florida last year. Planning the Trip: A Family Reunion Across Borders We invited my parents from the Philippines to join us for a vacation in Fort Lauderdale, where my mother-in-law lives, and later in the Cayman Islands, where we reside. Making this trip happen was no small feat. It took months of preparationโ€”handling paperwork for U.S. and Cayman visas, arranging accommodations, planning tours, and even renting a car for the entire vacation….

    Coping

Checking in today. This blog always lingers in the back of my mind, and even though I keep telling myself I’ll write something, I often donโ€™t. Is it that I’m getting older, or is it just that my energy drains faster these days? I promised I’d keep this space alive so I can one day look back and see how life wasโ€”even if itโ€™s the little things. Iโ€™ve said it before, but it still feels true: so much has been changing around me. Am I getting older faster than I thought? Lately, Iโ€™ve been struggling to manage my emotions and behavior. I havenโ€™t been great at recognizing what stresses me out, or how to stop taking everything so personally. And letโ€™s not even talk about…
