Preparing for a wedding can be a lot of work, and it has certainly been no exception for me. Over the past few months, I have been planning the event on a granular level. It has been more exhausting than I anticipated, especially since the wedding will take place in the Philippines, and I am currently in Cayman. With so much to do and so little time, I put my Derivatives course on hold to ensure I had enough time to prepare for the big day. I want to ensure everything is in place for the wedding, and I can’t wait to see all my hard work come to fruition in a few weeks!
Apart from the wedding preparations, several other events have been happening simultaneously. Firstly, I finally received my Caymanian naturalization, a significant milestone in my life. I have been through a lot to get this piece of paper, and I am thrilled that I can now officially call Cayman my home. I also applied for a passport and voter’s ID. The general elections will be next year.
Secondly, I have been watching a new reality TV show on FreeForm called Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise. The show was filmed on the island, and the people in it are notable members of the community. Since Cayman is such a small island, I know of some of them. Although many people say it is scripted, it is an exciting show. As a viewer, I don’t care how much of the show is real. I love the drama! I hope they will show more of the island’s beauty in the upcoming episodes.
Thirdly, I have developed a new interest: listening to a daily talk show in Cayman called The Cold Hard Truth. It is the morning opinion based program of Cayman Marl Road. Auntie Sandy discusses the most controversial and pressing issues on the island, and it is an open format, allowing anyone to call in and voice their opinions about the matter. I have been a regular commenter on social media, and I appreciate how engaging the show is.
Finally, there’s the Black Eyed Peas. I’ve been a fan of their music since childhood and had never seen them perform live, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard that they were coming to the island. The tickets were quite expensive, and since I already had many expenses for my wedding, I was still deciding whether to spend CI $300 for the concert.
Fortunately, The Cold Hard Truth Show was giving away premium stage tickets. I saved their number on my speed dial and am always on standby for the trivia questions. One week before the concert, I was lucky enough to call in the show while on my way to work. The trivia question was, “Which Pea is from the Philippines?”

So I went to the Black Eyed Peas concert, the first concert I’ve attended here in Cayman. I had a blast! Being a K-pop fan girl circa 2008, I usually don’t sit back and enjoy the music at concerts. Most of the time, I stare in awe and make sure I have the best fancam I could film for my consumption later on.
My fiancé and I stood at an elevated terrain, singing and dancing our hearts out. I didn’t care about putting names on boards anymore or if they would come near the audience. I just enjoyed every bit of the performance! It was such a great feeling to be able to enjoy the show. This is definitely in my core memory.
