Toronto Day 5: Black Friday and NBA Game

My co-worker Paula and I had planned to meet on Saturday, but we decided to change the schedule to Friday morning. We had no specific plans for the morning except for shopping for Black Friday. We headed to Vaughan Mills outlet mall early in the morning to avoid the long lines.

However, I could only buy four items from Kate Spade because the crowds were insane and the lines were too long. At times, it seemed like it wasn’t worth the wait and that I should have just shopped online instead. I can understand buying in bulk for retail stores, but if you’re like us and only want to buy one or two items, it’s not worth the wait (unless you want something limited edition!).

After shopping, we went to the Mandarin restaurant, which was a treat from Paula. It’s an all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant, and the food was terrific!

In the evening, my fiancรฉ and I went to the Scotiabank Arena to watch the NBA game between the Toronto Raptors and the Chicago Bulls. It was our first time watching a national basketball game, and we were excited! We wore matching Toronto hoodies, and I also wore my Maple Leaf cap. The game was so much fun! The crowd was lively, and even though I’m not a big fan of basketball, it reminded me of my college days when my blockmates and I watched UAAP games. The energy in the stadium was like that of a DLSU vs. ADMU finals game, although the scores weren’t very close. It was still a great experience and definitely one for the books.

Toronto Day 1: Arrival, Jollibee, Kimโ€™s Convenience, and CN Tower

Please read until the end, as I will summarize all the tips I have for you if you plan to travel to Toronto for the first time! We arrived in Toronto at midnight, and it was freezing even though it wasn’t winter yet. We flew with United Airlines, and the flight was good. I was surprised that the airport was more relaxed at that hour. I expected shops to be open and people coming and going, but it had some downtime. Because of the time of year, it was less busy than other airports I’ve been to in the past couple of years. If you’re a first-time visitor to Toronto, choose a hotel downtown like we did. Similar to most big cities, everything is accessible…

How to ace your Cayman Islands driver’s theory test

Hey you all! I’ve recently passed my Cayman Island’s written driver’s exam. I wasn’t a driver before I came here so I have no prior knowledge of road rules. It only took me 15 minutes to finish the test on my first try! Most people I know have been warning me on how difficult the exam is and that they had to retake it atleast 3 to 4 times. To be honest it wasn’t hard at all, and your odds of passing just depends on how prepared you are before the exam. For those who are planning to take it, today is your lucky day! I’m going to share with you some tips on how you can not only pass, but actually nail it on…

    Living life offline (somehow)

Hey there! How’s everything been on your end? I’ve been up to some interesting things lately, and I thought I’d share the highlights with you. So, buckle up, and let’s dive in! For starters, Iโ€™ve taken a bit of a social media detoxโ€”well, except for Reddit, of course. Itโ€™s been a game-changer. Without the constant scrolling and notifications, I’ve found myself living more in the moment, really soaking in the real-world interactions. Honestly, it feels like I’ve been living life more authentically. A couple of weeks ago, my bestie Beatriz and I decided to hit up a nearby restobar to unwind. Trust me, we donโ€™t do this often, so you can imagine my excitement! It was a Friday afternoon, the perfect time to shake off…

    Quick update

Hey guys! How have you been? It’s been a while! *blows dust off this blog* I have been surprisingly busy the past few days especially with work. The economy is slowly getting back on its feet in this side of the world. In response to COVID-19 crisis, the Cayman Islands government has allowed residents, regardless of age, to withdraw at least 25% of their pensions. Guess what happened? Locals are shopping now more than ever and spending tons of their money on new stuff such as home renovations, appliances, air conditioning, and what not. As you may all know, I work at an air conditioning and appliance business so sales has been crazy like it’s the holiday season. Can you imagine, in some parts of…

Toronto Day 6: Niagara Falls and Nathan Phillips Square

Save the best for the last! This day is my fiancรฉ’s 40th birthday. I decided to get a private tour of Niagra Falls instead of DIY-ing it myself. Niagara Falls is about 2 hours away from Toronto, and with this weather, it would have been a painful experience for us to do all the commute and transfers just to see the falls. I figured it was more convenient to just pay a little bit more for a private tour where all we have to do is relax while we are being driven around the area, and most importantly, we are being guided through the history of the place. Our first stop is Niagara On The Lake. It is often called “The Prettiest Town in Canada”…

    Coffee & Connect: Week 1

It’s Sunday. We made it through the week! So let me ask you something, how have you been? Well in my case, it’s a pretty normal week but a little more productive than the last one. Let me share my activities with you in bullets. Monday Went to work, nothing new except a ton of paperwork. Our business has been classified as “essential” so I spent some time to work in the office. Went home pretty early and played Mobile Legends with my friends. Watched Community on Netflix (already watched this when I was in college but it’s such a great sitcom I don’t mind rewatching it over and over again!) Started reading The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. Thanks for the recommendation Anika! Tuesday Impulsively…
