Living life offline (somehow)

Hey there! How’s everything been on your end? I’ve been up to some interesting things lately, and I thought I’d share the highlights with you. So, buckle up, and let’s dive in!

For starters, Iโ€™ve taken a bit of a social media detoxโ€”well, except for Reddit, of course. Itโ€™s been a game-changer. Without the constant scrolling and notifications, I’ve found myself living more in the moment, really soaking in the real-world interactions. Honestly, it feels like I’ve been living life more authentically.

A couple of weeks ago, my bestie Beatriz and I decided to hit up a nearby restobar to unwind. Trust me, we donโ€™t do this often, so you can imagine my excitement! It was a Friday afternoon, the perfect time to shake off the workweek stress. Since Iโ€™m not much of a drinker, I opted for a refreshing fruit punch while munching on some calamari. It was all pretty chillโ€”until we decided to get a little adventurous.

Now, hereโ€™s where it gets funny. We thought it would be wild to try smoking cigarettes, something Iโ€™ve never done in my 30 years of life. So there I was, thinking you could buy a single cigarette like you would in a sari-sari store back in the Philippines. Spoiler alert: thatโ€™s not how it works! Anyway, I gave it a go, but I just couldnโ€™t get the hang of it. I couldnโ€™t even inhale properly! After one cigarette, I threw in the towel. Turns out, smoking is more stressful than relaxing for me. But hey, it was a fun experiment, and Beatriz and I agreed to make these little adventures a monthly thingโ€”just for laughs!

On a more productive note, I recently revamped my workstation, and Iโ€™m absolutely loving it. My boss had a standing desk she didn’t want anymore, so I snagged it. Best decision ever! Now, I can stand while I work, which is a nice break from sitting all day. Seriously, give it a try if you can. Itโ€™s a small change, but it makes a big difference.

Weekends with my husband are all about keeping things chill and cozy. Yesterday, we had a movie night and watched Mission Cross on Netflix. Weโ€™re both big fans of action movies, and there’s nothing better than cuddling up in our new recliner sofa while the action unfolds on screen. We donโ€™t need to go anywhere to enjoy each otherโ€™s company; we create our own fun right at home!

Of course, weekends also mean getting things done around the house. Saturday was chore dayโ€”I spent most of it cleaning and organizing while my husband washed both of our cars. It was productive yet homey, and thatโ€™s married life in a nutshell: balancing the to-dos with the simple joys of being together.

Aside from that, Iโ€™ve been indulging in some guilty pleasures:

Reality TV: Iโ€™m hooked on Drag Race Philippines! The new season is here, and OMG, the drama and creativity are off the charts. Iโ€™ve been a fan of drag for a while now, and this show never disappoints. The first episode was already packed with dramaโ€”classic drag, right? Iโ€™m glued to the dragraceph subreddit, soaking up all the shade and gossip. Wednesdays canโ€™t come fast enough!

K-Dramas: I started watching Record of Youth, and Iโ€™m obsessed. I know K-dramas can be a bit cringy, but thereโ€™s something about this one that just gets me. It follows a model whoโ€™s trying to make it as an actor, facing all the usual industry struggles. He meets a makeup artist whoโ€™s also dealing with her own challenges. I love these idol/fan dramasโ€”they take me back to my K-pop fangirl days. Itโ€™s like a sweet trip down memory lane, reminding me of the innocent joys of my teenage years.

Books: I finally finished How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, and I canโ€™t recommend it enough. Itโ€™s a must-read if you want to level up your social skills. Now, Iโ€™m diving into Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss. Heโ€™s a former FBI hostage negotiator, and the book is all about mastering negotiation in everyday life. Itโ€™s surprisingly practicalโ€”youโ€™d be amazed how these techniques can help you negotiate anything from time to money. If youโ€™re into personal development, this book is a gem!

So yeah, thatโ€™s what Iโ€™ve been up to lately. Lifeโ€™s been a mix of new experiences, small changes, and indulging in the things that make me happy. How about you? Any fun stories to share?

    Cayman Turtle Centre

Did you know that turtle meat is one of the national delicacies in Cayman? Where I’m from that would be bizarre to hear but interestingly enough it is not in this side of the world. The Cayman Turtle Centre is a conservation facility for turtles and also tourist spot here in West Bay. I’ve only been there once when I was 13 and never dared to go back until a couple of days ago. I got the urge to go visit due to a number of calls I receive from their Aviary department regarding problems with refrigeration. If you didn’t know yet, I work under a contractor for refrigeration so everytime the farm has some problems with their coolers, ACs, or fridge, I arrange for…

    Saturday nights at Cotton Club

“Is there anything else you do on Saturdays aside from clubbing?” Short answer is, no! In this small island there is not much of a variety of fun activities to do on weekends apart from beaching so yeah. This is what “Caymanian kids nowadays” do most of the time. What I like about the night life here is that girls wear literally whatever they want without being judged or bodyshamed. As a woman that is one of the most liberating feelings you could possbily feel. It also keeps my creative juices flowing esp on outfit ideas and accessorizing. In the photo above I was only wearing a gray sports bra and an office skirt – but it turned out not so bad! ___ Anywhere with…

    The Hallotober Tag

I know it’s late to do the Hallotober tag since it’s November in like two days, but I’d like to go and participate in it anyway! Thanks to Izzy for tagging me, and Jordanne for this idea! Halloween has always been my favorite part of the year. I know some people would say Halloween isn’t something to be celebrated because of its origins, but common guys, it’s 2020! Halloween is fun because you can dress up as literally anyone and go to spooky parties! It’s that one time of the year where everybody suddenly becomes a cosplayer; and everybody suddenly has a supernatural experience to share. I love watching horror movies with my friends and be frightened with them, I don’t know, it makes me…

    Wedding bells and concert thrills

Preparing for a wedding can be a lot of work, and it has certainly been no exception for me. Over the past few months, I have been planning the event on a granular level. It has been more exhausting than I anticipated, especially since the wedding will take place in the Philippines, and I am currently in Cayman. With so much to do and so little time, I put my Derivatives course on hold to ensure I had enough time to prepare for the big day. I want to ensure everything is in place for the wedding, and I can’t wait to see all my hard work come to fruition in a few weeks! Secondly, I have been watching a new reality TV show on…

Toronto Day 2: Royal Ontario Museum and Eaton Centre

Today’s itinerary is more relaxed than Day 1. I had initially planned for a busy day, but we decided to take it easy. As usual, we ordered Jollibee for breakfast and headed straight to the first on our list — the Royal Ontario Museum. It is easy to commute here since the museum is just right as you exit the University Line – Museum Station. To get to the subway, we took a bus. It was raining and extra cold – but nothing could stop us! The Royal Ontario Museum is so huge. I can’t remember the last time I went to a museum, so I am amazed by their art collection. Apart from Canadian pieces, they also have European, Asian, Asia-Pacific, Middle Eastern, and…

    Catching up

Hey! Just in case you are wondering, I’m doing okay. Yesterday I went out on a lunch with my nephew at a Vivo Restaurant in West Bay, five minutes away from my workplace. It’s my first time eating vegan and I must say it’s not that bad. It’s just costly lol. I’m starting to focus on holistic recovery for myself. I recently enrolled in Yoga classes (Yin and Vinyasa) and I’m trying to condition my mind to always have a positive outlook in life. I cut-off almost all my social media presence (except twitter and blogspot) and it is doing me good mentally so far. I have also engrossed myself over Crash Landing On You, you guys should watch it too! It’s a K-drama with…
