A Slow Sunday in Mandeville Anne, May 25, 2025May 27, 2025 Today was one of those slow-paced Sundays where we didn’t really have a plan—we just drove around Mandeville with no particular destination in mind. Most of the shops were closed (as expected in the countryside on a Sunday), but that didn’t stop us from exploring and soaking up the scenery. One of the most interesting places we passed by was what my husband calls the “Red Lake.” He told me that when he was a little boy, people believed the lake turned red because nearby factories used to dump chemical waste into it. 😳 These days, it’s no longer a lake—just a wide expanse of reddish dirt. According to one of the locals we spoke with, my husband’s story checks out. They said the dumping eventually stopped, and over time, the lake dried up completely, leaving behind the red-hued land that still surprises passersby. Another thing I love about driving through the countryside? The fruit stalls! They’re everywhere—and so full of color and life. It’s giving full Caribbean vibes. 🌴 We stopped at one and picked up a bunch of ripe mangoes (my ultimate weakness). And the funny part? None of them made it home. I devoured all of them in the car. No regrets. 😋 Before heading back, we made a quick visit to my husband’s grandmother and uncle, who he hasn’t seen in a while. His grandma is 94 years old… and still plants yam. Can you imagine?! That woman is a force of nature. Some days don’t have to be packed with activities to feel special. This one was all about slow drives, old stories, fresh mangoes, and family—exactly the kind of Sunday I didn’t know I needed. ☀️💛 Blog
