Toronto Day 4: Winter Village at the Distillery District and St. Lawrence Market

I thought I was completely prepared for my trip. It was only on the third day that I realized I badly needed a moisturizer. I had no idea that the cold weather could dry my skin so badly! I noticed bumps on my skin and my lips began to crack. I quickly realized that it was because of the chilly, dry breeze. As someone who has never lived in a winter climate, I didn’t know this could happen. Fortunately, I was able to purchase Mugwort Essence and Cream from the brand “I’m From” at Sukoshi Mart in Eaton Centre. After using it for just one night, my skin felt hydrated and refreshed. I appreciated that it didn’t leave a sticky feeling like some other moisturizers do. Mugwort is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it perfect for dry skin during the winter. Even now that I’m back in Cayman, I continue to use it.

In addition to the essence and the cream, I also got a hydrating makeup from Sephora called NARS Light Reflecting Advanced Skincare Foundation. It has a lightweight formula, thin and watery consistency but has a medium and buildable coverage.

One of these days I will share my new found skin care and makeup favorites (not that anyone is asking, lol!)

Today, for Day 4, we decided to stroll around the area. There are many sights to see within walking distance, so we took our time exploring. At noon, we walked to the winter village in the Distillery District. It is beautiful and festive at this time of year. When we arrived, there were no admission fees.

There were plenty of festive decorations, coffee shops, and restaurants in the area. Staff members dressed up as Santa Claus and elves could be seen walking around and were available for those who wanted to take pictures with them. One particular attraction that was worth mentioning is the Illuminarium. It uses interactive technology to simulate whirlwind snowstorms and glowing Northern Lights, providing an immersive experience for visitors.

After strolling around the Distillery District, we headed towards St. Lawrence Market via The Esplanade. Along the way, we passed through a series of parks that extend all the way to the market. Many people were out and about, either walking their dogs, cycling, or taking a nighttime stroll. The area was peaceful and quiet, with very few cars passing by.

The St. Lawrence Market is an iconic public market in Toronto. It is not just a farmer’s market where you can find fresh produce, but it is also home to artisanal vendors selling unique crafts, jewelry, and other handcrafted items. We had dinner at one Korean stall downstairs, and we also took the opportunity to buy some souvenirs to take home. More adventure in the next following days! ๐Ÿ™‚

    One Cayman Carnival

Today went to the annual adult street parade for Batabano / CayMAS in George Town. There were loud music, colorful costumes, people dancing in the streets, random strangers hyping each other up, drinks flowing everywhere! It was one of those events where you can just feel everyone letting loose and enjoying life for a day. If youโ€™ve never experienced Caribbean carnival before, itโ€™s basically a huge cultural celebration rooted in music, freedom, history, and self-expression. Different islands celebrate it differently, but the common themes are soca music, elaborate costumes, dancing, and community. Carnival in the Caribbean has deep historical roots tied to emancipation and cultural identity, evolving over generations into the massive celebrations we see today. What made this year interesting is that Caymanโ€™s two…

Toronto Day 2: Royal Ontario Museum and Eaton Centre

Today’s itinerary is more relaxed than Day 1. I had initially planned for a busy day, but we decided to take it easy. As usual, we ordered Jollibee for breakfast and headed straight to the first on our list — the Royal Ontario Museum. It is easy to commute here since the museum is just right as you exit the University Line – Museum Station. To get to the subway, we took a bus. It was raining and extra cold – but nothing could stop us! The Royal Ontario Museum is so huge. I can’t remember the last time I went to a museum, so I am amazed by their art collection. Apart from Canadian pieces, they also have European, Asian, Asia-Pacific, Middle Eastern, and…

    CayMas among other things

I’m so terrible at keeping my blog active, na tru? A lot has been going on quite recently. Apart from still learning about my current role in my new workplace, I am also studying for 4 upcoming exams: CSC 1, CSC 2, CPH, and Options/Derivatives. I’ve mentioned this numerous times in the past and I know I sound like a broken record because that’s about the only thing I ever talk about! But really — I work from 8:30am-4:30pm, study on lunch breaks, attend study group session from 4:30PM to 7PM, every single day. I only have a window of time on Saturdays to sleep, do house chores, run some errands, date night with hubby-to-be, or watch netflix! Then on Sundays I go meet up…

    On to the next chapter

I quit my job last Wednesday. It felt so surreal. I remember when I arrived in Cayman five years ago. I went through a lot of struggle. I dreamt about working in one of the most reputable banks on island. It took me a while to get there. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me, and now it’s time to pursue something even better.  Once upon a time this was just a dream, and now it is my reality.  The team surprised me with farewell cake and sweet messages on my last day. I’m not sure I will miss the work, but I most definitely will miss working with amazing colleagues like SS, KK, TH, NR; the dream team…

Nobody knows! 1st stop: Hell, West BayMission: Take a group photo with the devil I was hoping for the bus to go East for a change but oh well this year they decided to rome around West Bay – my district. First task is to take a group photo with the devil (kinda lame but yeah lol). Nobody gave af about the mission,…

Toronto Day 6: Niagara Falls and Nathan Phillips Square

Save the best for the last! This day is my fiancรฉ’s 40th birthday. I decided to get a private tour of Niagra Falls instead of DIY-ing it myself. Niagara Falls is about 2 hours away from Toronto, and with this weather, it would have been a painful experience for us to do all the commute and transfers just to see the falls. I figured it was more convenient to just pay a little bit more for a private tour where all we have to do is relax while we are being driven around the area, and most importantly, we are being guided through the history of the place. Our first stop is Niagara On The Lake. It is often called “The Prettiest Town in Canada”…
