Preparing for a wedding can be a lot of work, and it has certainly been no exception for me. Over the past few months, I have been planning the event on a granular level. It has been more exhausting than I anticipated, especially since the wedding will take place in the Philippines, and I am currently in Cayman. With so much to do and so little time, I put my Derivatives course on hold to ensure I had enough time to prepare for the big day. Since it’s almost carnival season (but has been postponed until further notice), I will take you to trip down memory lane with me in last years celebration! Batabano Carnival  is an annual festival held in the Cayman Islands every month of May. The island is home to more than a hundred nationalities, most (if not all) of which participate in light of community spirit. It is a cultural celebration filled with music, dance, food, costumes, heritage and culture, and ofcourse booze! lol. Hi friends! How are you? I haven’t been able to update this blog as much as I wanted to, but it is not by choice! I have been swamped the past couple of weeks…😓 Indeed 2023 started with a bang! At work, we have a major issue that my team had to help resolve. When I say major, it is reportable to the ombudsman major! It has been very stressful and challenging trying to fix something that we did not create in the first place, much less totally avoidable! The global health crisis has brought almost all nations into community quarantine, and here in Cayman, we are not an exemption. The government has recently mandated a lot of businesses to temporarily close due to the recent developments with the pandemic. As we speak, we have 9 active cases here on island, and the best measures the authority came up with are: Twenty-four (24) hour curfew (we literally panicked buy yesterday because no one is allowed to go out!), Island-wide lock down (airport is closed for passenger planes, only cargo is allowed), and To temporarily shut down non-essential business, causing a lot of employees to be laid off. Few weeks ago I’ve read this article called “Betting on the Planet”. It’s a very interesting debate between an ecologist, Paul Ehrlich, and an economist, Julian Simon, regarding environmental issues. You may access the file here. My thoughts were divided after reading the article. On one side, I am in favor of what Paul Ehrlich has to say. However, most of what I had in mind agrees with Julian Simon. Growing up, I was exposed to a lot of environmental issues. Almost all activities we had in high school concerned the preservation of the planet. We were trained to reuse, reduce and recycle. Halloween has always been my favorite part of the year. I know some people would say Halloween isn’t something to be celebrated because of its origins, but common guys, it’s 2020!
