It’s Halloween again!

It’s currently 9:39 PM. I’m alone in my apartment, enjoying a cup of coffee. It’s nice to relax and have some me-time after a busy month. I recently read our company policy and learned that we should be careful about putting our names out on the internet and avoid associating the company’s name with personal matters. However, since I plan to write about my daily life, and since most of my day is spent at work, it’s difficult to avoid mentioning the company. Therefore, I’ll use a pseudonym in this blog.

It is a great relief to finally finish the two exams that I have been dreading for the past six months. I have come to realize that I am not as efficient in studying as I was during my university days. Six months felt like an eternity, but now I can breathe a little easier knowing that two of the four exams required for my career are done!

I am planning to take my third exam in two weeks, so I am going to start studying tomorrow. The past week has been very busy in the office; I had to organize the Halloween event without an official budget, so I had to be creative to pull it off successfully. I feel relieved that it’s over now.

In two weeks, I will be flying to Canada for my vacation, and I want to be able to enjoy it. That’s why I booked my exam before then. I heard it is very cold in Canada, and I don’t have any winter clothes yet, which makes me a bit uneasy. Anne clothes are very expensive here, so I might try to borrow a winter coat from one of my coworkers.

I will definitely share my experience with you as soon as I am back.

โ€‹Our Halloween event turned out to be a huge success, but initially, I was worried that no one would participate. To encourage attendance, I even requested the boss to make it mandatory for the associates to join. By mid-October, we started putting up Halloween decorations bit by bit. I also posted riddles around the office for everyone to enjoy and solve. Each solved riddle earned points, and the person with the most points would win at the event. Since there was no budget for the event, I reached out to multiple companies for sponsorship to entice my coworkers.

I was lucky enough to receive 20 tickets for various events and a one-night hotel stay with brunch for two. My primary goal was to let the staff have some fun without spending too much money.

As the event approached, I wanted to come up with more creative ways to engage everyone. I assigned the intern the task of creating three different storylines for the scavenger hunt that I was planning, and he delivered beyond my expectations. All I had to do was personalize it for each player.

I also purchased a murder mystery party game on Etsy, so that everyone could gather around a table with food and drinks. It was a huge success!

Yesterday, my coworker Lisa put a lot of effort into decorating our workplace for Halloween. The decorations looked extraordinary. I’ll let you be the judge of it. She spent three weeks organizing everything, and I am so proud of her.

Everyone showed up in costume yesterday and it was great to see the Halloween spirit alive in everyone, including our managers. I really appreciate the enthusiasm.

Day 2 in Japan: Shrines, Street Food, and a Very Random Karaoke Night

Okay, so itโ€™s officially our second day in Japan, and the pregnant lady is still exhausted. ๐Ÿ˜… But honestly, the day couldnโ€™t go to waste. We woke up early for breakfast and decided that instead of pushing ourselves all the way to Kyoto (which wouldโ€™ve been a whole production with our schedule), weโ€™d visit Nezu Shrine instead. Nezu Shrine is like a little Kyoto tucked inside Tokyo. Quiet, traditional, and surrounded by those iconic red torii gates. Itโ€™s one of the oldest shrines in the city, and itโ€™s dedicated to Inari, the deity of prosperity and good harvest. Japan has shrines everywhere because Shintoism is deeply woven into everyday life. People visit to give thanks, pray for good fortune, or simply reconnect with nature. At…

    Motherhood

Since I got pregnant and gave birth, I pretty much abandoned this blog. What a shame, honestly. This used to be my little diary, my safe space on the internet. But I guess Iโ€™m in a new era now, and any tiny pocket of free time I get, I just choose sleep. Or at least lying down and staring at the ceiling in silence. Having a baby is no joke. I have a whole new level of respect for all the moms out there, especially the single moms. This is hard. And thatโ€™s coming from someone who has so much support: a stable job with maternity benefits, a loving husband, and a supermom who will take over baby duties the moment I say โ€œMama, Iโ€™m…

    Cayman Turtle Centre

Did you know that turtle meat is one of the national delicacies in Cayman? Where I’m from that would be bizarre to hear but interestingly enough it is not in this side of the world. The Cayman Turtle Centre is a conservation facility for turtles and also tourist spot here in West Bay. I’ve only been there once when I was 13 and never dared to go back until a couple of days ago. I got the urge to go visit due to a number of calls I receive from their Aviary department regarding problems with refrigeration. If you didn’t know yet, I work under a contractor for refrigeration so everytime the farm has some problems with their coolers, ACs, or fridge, I arrange for…

    Halloween in Cayman Islands 2020

Hey guys, you might have already read my post the other day about The Hallotober Tag. I mentioned there that I love Halloween because I like dressing up, going to parties, and having fun on spooky community events. Last year, I went on a Halloween party bus (with missions and games) and since then I’ve always looked forward to this years event.  My costume was ready since the beginning of the year. Yes, that’s how excited I was! I even signed up on three events: Fright Fest: The Strand Block Party, Nightmare on Walker’s Road, and Dead On Arrival: All Inclusive Halloween Event. Finally, the wait is over! This year, I dressed up as… *drum roll please*… Sailor Moon! The Fright Fest is an annual event and has…

    Crazy week, changes, small wins

This week has zipped by so fast that when I look back, I canโ€™t even remember doing anything worth mentioningโ€”seriously, what even happened? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thereโ€™s been so much going on around me lately. I keep telling myself not to let it get to me, but I think my body might be a better judge of that. I donโ€™t feel stressed out, but somehow itโ€™s showing up physically anyway. Work has been a bit of a madhouse recently. With two of my colleagues off on vacation, itโ€™s just been me and another coworker holding down the fort. Those two weeks were intense, but we made it through. And just when I thought things might ease up, my best friend at work decided to quit. Sheโ€™s putting…

  • Pros and Cons of Living in Cayman Islands

Pros and Cons of Living in Cayman Islands

Hey everyone! Today’s topic is about my experiences here in the Cayman Islands. I’ve been a residing here since 2018 and throughout my stay I’ve summarised the top things that I think are the upsides and downsides of living here. Without further ado, let’s start! Pros: 1. Less pollution.ย  I was born and raised in Manila, and that already speaks of how much environmental issues I can endure. Here in Cayman, I do not notice any type of pollution, may it be air, water, land, or even noise. Since the island thrives on tourism, the people and the government are strict with cleanliness so you won’t see people littering around. And if you do, they get cleaned up so fast! Air is also not a…
