Ocho Rios Day 1: Fern Gully, Rio Cobre, Mahogany Beach

Ahh, where do I even begin? Maybe with this: I think I have to come to terms with the fact that now that Iโ€™m older, I get tired so easily. Like, why does waking up early feel like a personal attack on my energy levels? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway, we were up bright and early to pack and start the drive from Clarendon to Ocho Rios. If you didnโ€™t know, Ocho Rios is one of Jamaicaโ€™s most famous tourist spotsโ€”known for its waterfalls, lush greenery, and beach-meets-jungle vibe. Think tropical getaway, but with more culture and spice. My brother-in-law suggested we take the Spanish Town bypass instead of the usual route because of the potholes (seriously, Jamaicaโ€™s roads can humble even the best shock absorbers!). And honestly?…

    A Slow Sunday in Mandeville

Today was one of those slow-paced Sundays where we didnโ€™t really have a planโ€”we just drove around Mandeville with no particular destination in mind. Most of the shops were closed (as expected in the countryside on a Sunday), but that didnโ€™t stop us from exploring and soaking up the scenery. One of the most interesting places we passed by was what my husband calls the โ€œRed Lake.โ€ He told me that when he was a little boy, people believed the lake turned red because nearby factories used to dump chemical waste into it. ๐Ÿ˜ณ These days, itโ€™s no longer a lakeโ€”just a wide expanse of reddish dirt. According to one of the locals we spoke with, my husbandโ€™s story checks out. They said the dumping…

    Today’s my birthday!๐Ÿฅณ

I’m spending it here in Jamaica with my husband, in his hometown. It’s a little extra special this year because tomorrow also happens to be our first wedding anniversary. Getting here was a bit hectic. I worked from 8:30AM until 3:30PM yesterday, rushed to the airport for our 5:30PM flight, landed and cleared immigration by 7:30PM, picked up the rental car, and then drove another 2.5 hours โ€” well, he drove not me lol It was my husband’s first time seeing his brother in a while, and his mom is also visiting at the same time (she’s based in the U.S.), so we ended up hanging out late. Around 1 AM, they surprised me with a birthday cake and sang happy birthday โ€” I wasn’t…

Our Memorable Christmas and New Year’s Trip to Florida

It’s been a long time since I last posted! It feels so good to be writing on my blog again. Can you believe it’s almost April already? Time flies by fastโ€”everything feels like a blur these days! But let me take a moment to backtrack and share about our unforgettable Christmas and New Year’s trip to Florida last year. Planning the Trip: A Family Reunion Across Borders We invited my parents from the Philippines to join us for a vacation in Fort Lauderdale, where my mother-in-law lives, and later in the Cayman Islands, where we reside. Making this trip happen was no small feat. It took months of preparationโ€”handling paperwork for U.S. and Cayman visas, arranging accommodations, planning tours, and even renting a car for the entire vacation….

    Coping

Checking in today. This blog always lingers in the back of my mind, and even though I keep telling myself I’ll write something, I often donโ€™t. Is it that I’m getting older, or is it just that my energy drains faster these days? I promised I’d keep this space alive so I can one day look back and see how life wasโ€”even if itโ€™s the little things. Iโ€™ve said it before, but it still feels true: so much has been changing around me. Am I getting older faster than I thought? Lately, Iโ€™ve been struggling to manage my emotions and behavior. I havenโ€™t been great at recognizing what stresses me out, or how to stop taking everything so personally. And letโ€™s not even talk about…

  • Crazy week, changes, small wins

    Crazy week, changes, small wins

This week has zipped by so fast that when I look back, I canโ€™t even remember doing anything worth mentioningโ€”seriously, what even happened? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thereโ€™s been so much going on around me lately. I keep telling myself not to let it get to me, but I think my body might be a better judge of that. I donโ€™t feel stressed out, but somehow itโ€™s showing up physically anyway. Work has been a bit of a madhouse recently. With two of my colleagues off on vacation, itโ€™s just been me and another coworker holding down the fort. Those two weeks were intense, but we made it through. And just when I thought things might ease up, my best friend at work decided to quit. Sheโ€™s putting…
