Five things you probably didn’t know about me

Happy Sunday everyone! Today I want you to get to know me a little bit better. I can be quite private in a way that I don’t really like putting myself out there, but this time I’m going out of my shell for a bit and share some of myself. This is part of my Coffee & Connect series where I talk about personal stuff, so you can check out the other posts if you are curious. โ˜บ

Let’s begin!

#1. When asked, I always introduce myself as full Filipino 


I was born and raised in the Philippines by my Filipino mom. Technically I am only 50%, but the way I think, speak, and act are all 100% Filipino. Even my accent would give me away. Nothing is really Caymanian of me except my appearance (sometimes). All values I have are embedded from the Filipino culture. I am even more updated in the Philippine politics than in Cayman.

#2. I was a Sasaeng


For those who are not familiar with the term, a sasaeng is an obsessive fan who stalks, or engages in other behaviour constituting an invasion of the privacy of a Korean idol or other public figure. I was so addicted  to Kpop to the point that it has taken over my both my consious and unconcious life. I used to stalk my idols and live like they know me and that I’m a part of their life as well. It almost felt like living in my own bubble. I used to always follow my idols around in person and online back when Kpop wasn’t mainstream. I always go with my bestfriend Hazel who share the same sentiments as me. There was a time we faked backstage passes (as audio technical people), even in the airport pretending to assist a relative coming from abroad so we could  go in VIP  (please do not do this lol) , slept in a hotel bathroom because where the idols are staying is fully booked, and stalking them all day and skipping classes just so we could get their attention. Not very proud of this experience but I was very young back then. If you are curious about this part of my life I can share some experiences and photos in the next Coffee and Connect.

#3.  I love to laugh. It is my hobby.

I don’t know maybe it is my way of escape from all the negativities in life. I like watching comedy series and movies because I love to get myself a good laugh. I watch comical youtube videos for that same reason, and I like laughing at my friends’ jokes even  though they’re not funny (sorry! also for moral support lol). Conversely, one of the reasons also is I could get emotional very quickly and could cry in a snap. I am a very emotional person and this is what I’ve been working on the past couple of years. I try to avoid situations that would trigger a breakdown. I remember joining a theatre play a while back about suicide prevention and I was surprised to see the audience cry as they saw my performance. They probably felt it was more than just a role. Never did that again because it took me quite some time to recover!

#4. Contrary to popular belief, I am an introvert with social anxiety. 
I talk to myself in the mirror and record myself talking just so I could hear my own thoughts and practice my communicaton skills. Even in Tagalog, it’s hard for me to convey what I want to say. I don’t understand how come it’s clear in my head but when I speak it’s not as layed out as I want it to be? In short I am not articulate enough, that’s why I always prefer writing than speaking.

#5. If you see me in person, trust me, I always look like I’m lost. 
But I’m not! Everytime I go out, I never check my surroundings out. I am most of the time just in my own world. If you know what I mean. This is why my friends would always tell me I always look lost and gullible. And some would be like “Hey I saw you but you snobbed me” No sorry! I really don’t mind other people’s business when I’m out. I just go do my agenda on my own and that’s it. I love being alone especially in public places, it gives me that weird comfortable feeling of being in my own personal space while my surroundings are busy. It’s like the calm in the middle of the storm.

    This week has been pretty mundane, nothing much about me. How about you? The things that kept me busy all week are errands for my workplace and mostly games. The island has been responding very positively on the restrictions set up by the government to prevent the spread of the virus (e.g. curfew, essential business operations, last name protocol, etc). They have been doing an feedback session every two weeks, and when circumstances are getting better, restrictions are being gradually lifted.     Hi friends! Yay for my first post in 2023! New years hasn’t been that exciting for me. I’ve discovered a lot about myself in 2022, and one of those is I HATE FIRECRACKERS!     Toronto Day 5: Black Friday and NBA Game

    My co-worker Paula and I had planned to meet on Saturday, but we decided to change the schedule to Friday morning. We had no specific plans for the morning except for shopping for Black Friday. We headed to Vaughan Mills outlet mall early in the morning to avoid the long lines. However, I could only buy four items from Kate Spade because the crowds were insane and the lines were too long. At times, it seemed like it wasn’t worth the wait and that I should have just shopped online instead. I can understand buying in bulk for retail stores, but if you’re like us and only want to buy one or two items, it’s not worth the wait (unless you want something limited edition!)….

    Before getting pregnant, I imagined pregnancy would be a slow and predictable process. You find out, you watch your belly grow, you prepare the nursery, and then eventually the baby arrives.     Hi friends! This is me trying to update my dusty old blog lol.   2. #2 is really cool :)) I would love to hear more about your experiences of following around your favorite kpop idols! That would probably feel nostalgic to write about. I was also once an avid fangirl but for a Japanese rock guitarist… so embarrassing to think of now because he was all I used to think, talk, and write about haha!! Oh youth.
