Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park

I’ve always wanted to visit this tourist attraction ever since I came to the island but never really got the chance to do so because I live on the other side. I’m not a green thumb or a plant/flower enthusiast but I love going to botanic parks because of a lot of prospective subject to practice my macro photography. It is also a nice place to unwind, have a quick stroll, and appreciate nature in its most natural form.

Last week, after so many self persuasions I finally decided to get up and get ready on a Saturday morning to go to North Side and enjoy Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. It was very humid unfortunately so I ended up sweating all over throughout the walk. It was uncomfortable considering the amount of mosquitoes biting me as well, but nevertheless I enjoyed the view! Here are some of the photos I took.

Flowers always make people better, happier and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.

Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park showcases beautiful gardens, lake, and nature displays. It is also a natural habitat for the Cayman Blue Iguana and a breeding ground for a variety of rare aquatic birds and animals native to the Caribbean. Click here to view the map.

    Batabano Carnival

Since it’s almost carnival season (but has been postponed until further notice), I will take you to trip down memory lane with me in last years celebration! Batabano Carnival  is an annual festival held in the Cayman Islands every month of May. The island is home to more than a hundred nationalities, most (if not all) of which participate in light of community spirit. It is a cultural celebration filled with music, dance, food, costumes, heritage and culture, and ofcourse booze! lol. It is a pretty young carnival that has only been going on for 30 years (thanks to Rotary Club!) The highlight of the festival is the street parade composed of masquerade bands and *drumroll please…..* exotic costumes! Last years parade started from the Seven…

    Wedding bells and concert thrills

Preparing for a wedding can be a lot of work, and it has certainly been no exception for me. Over the past few months, I have been planning the event on a granular level. It has been more exhausting than I anticipated, especially since the wedding will take place in the Philippines, and I am currently in Cayman. With so much to do and so little time, I put my Derivatives course on hold to ensure I had enough time to prepare for the big day. I want to ensure everything is in place for the wedding, and I can’t wait to see all my hard work come to fruition in a few weeks! Secondly, I have been watching a new reality TV show on…

    A Slow Sunday in Mandeville

Today was one of those slow-paced Sundays where we didnโ€™t really have a planโ€”we just drove around Mandeville with no particular destination in mind. Most of the shops were closed (as expected in the countryside on a Sunday), but that didnโ€™t stop us from exploring and soaking up the scenery. One of the most interesting places we passed by was what my husband calls the โ€œRed Lake.โ€ He told me that when he was a little boy, people believed the lake turned red because nearby factories used to dump chemical waste into it. ๐Ÿ˜ณ These days, itโ€™s no longer a lakeโ€”just a wide expanse of reddish dirt. According to one of the locals we spoke with, my husbandโ€™s story checks out. They said the dumping…

    Halloween in Cayman Islands 2020

Hey guys, you might have already read my post the other day about The Hallotober Tag. I mentioned there that I love Halloween because I like dressing up, going to parties, and having fun on spooky community events. Last year, I went on a Halloween party bus (with missions and games) and since then I’ve always looked forward to this years event.  My costume was ready since the beginning of the year. Yes, that’s how excited I was! I even signed up on three events: Fright Fest: The Strand Block Party, Nightmare on Walker’s Road, and Dead On Arrival: All Inclusive Halloween Event. Finally, the wait is over! This year, I dressed up as… *drum roll please*… Sailor Moon! The Fright Fest is an annual event and has…

    I’m 30, and married!

I recently went on a four-week trip to the Philippines, with an exciting three-day stopover in Los Angeles. During this trip, I celebrated my 30th birthday, got married, bought my mom her dream car, and explored a new city. It was a whirlwind of joy and unforgettable experiences. My wedding planning started last May after I got engaged. We needed a year to save money, plan the theme, and organize everything to ensure our loved ones could come. It was a big task that took up a lot of my time, but I loved every moment of it. Planning a wedding in another country had its challenges. The time difference made it hard to communicate with vendors, and the cultural differences in wedding traditions were…

  • Ocho Rios Day 2: Mystic Mountain

Ocho Rios Day 2: Mystic Mountain

We woke up to a stunning view of Ocho Rios beachโ€”clear skies, calm water, the kind of morning that makes you just pause and stare for a minute. We had breakfast at Almond Tree Restaurant, which sits right by the water. Naturally, we had to order ackee and saltfish with dumpling (because when in Jamaica, right?). The food was as good as the view. Quick Tips if Youโ€™re Planning to Visit Mystic Mountain: Originally, I wanted to pack the day with activities, but then I had a moment. Iโ€™m on vacation. Iโ€™m on an island. Why rush? As someone used to time-sensitive work, itโ€™s surprisingly hard to not plan everything by the hour. So instead of rushing, I took a nap at 11 a.m. (lol…
