Halloween 2022

Hi friends! This is me trying to update my dusty old blog lol. As you all know, halloween is one of my favourite events in the year mainly because I love seeing people dressed up not just in spooky costumes but creative and cute ones as well! And since I’m a fan of Brooklyn Nine Nine’s halloween specials, I incorporated the same idea in my workplace.

I recently joined the social committee and immediately took dibs of organising halloween this year. Last year, we had a spontaneous party and awards for best costume and best decor. So I thought of doing the same, but with one more additional competition: Amazing Race – Halloween Edition!
I was not given any budget for this social so I gathered some sponsors for the prizes. Home Gas, On The Scene Entertainment, and Monster Media were all kind enough to give me tickets to their events as a grand prize! I also prepared trophies for best costume and team decor, and of course the Brooklyn Nine Nine classic wrestling belt for the Amazing Race winner!

I split the event into two parts:
  1. Lunch served in the boardroom at 12nn to gather everyone so they can cast their votes for best costume and decor. This is also when the Amazing Race begins (they can play between 12nn to 4pm while doing their BAU)
  2. Happy hour drinks served at 4pm for the awarding of winners
I’ve written three different crime stories for each team to solve, with clues hidden around the office. Everyone was so excited! I was surprised by the overall engagement! Each team went out of their way to decorate their offices out of pocket, played the race, dressed up, and went beyond all expectations!
Our team did not win any award (purposely) as we are the organisers of the event. I was the MC for the awarding and we made sure everybody won something! The event was a success, and we will make it an annual tradition ๐Ÿ™‚
Check out the tour below! Our team’s theme is vampire’s lair.

After the halloween party at the office, my boyfriend and I went to the water front to experience the ‘Haunted House’ and the afterparty. This time I dressed up as Sailor Moon and my boyfriend as Street Fighter Ryu. We also joined the costume contest but didn’t win lol. Regardless, it was such a fun night!

Are we in the age of scarcity?

Few weeks ago Iโ€™ve read this article called โ€œBetting on the Planetโ€. Itโ€™s a very interesting debate between an ecologist, Paul Ehrlich, and an economist, Julian Simon, regarding environmental issues. You may access the file here. My thoughts were divided after reading the article. On one side, I am in favor of what Paul Ehrlich has to say. However, most of what I had in mind agrees with Julian Simon. Growing up, I was exposed to a lot of environmental issues. Almost all activities we had in high school concerned the preservation of the planet. We were trained to reuse, reduce and recycle. We were shown educational videos about how we, human beings, are slowly ruining our own home. Global warming was a hot topic, and almost…

Why can’t we just print money?

Hey everyone, welcome to Food for Thought (a new blog series I launched last week) where I answer one common question and hopefully we both learn something from it. This week’s topic is a bit relevant to our current situation and one of the most famous questions asked at your basic Economics class: Why can’t the government just print more money to solve national issues such as poverty? The short answer is: Inflation. The long answer is: Let’s first start on why money was invented in the first place. Before fiat money (paper money which technically has no instrinsic value) was invented, our ancestors use the barter system. It is a system where goods and services are exchanged between entities. However, one of the major problems with…

Ocho Rios Day 1: Fern Gully, Rio Cobre, Mahogany Beach

Ahh, where do I even begin? Maybe with this: I think I have to come to terms with the fact that now that Iโ€™m older, I get tired so easily. Like, why does waking up early feel like a personal attack on my energy levels? ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway, we were up bright and early to pack and start the drive from Clarendon to Ocho Rios. If you didnโ€™t know, Ocho Rios is one of Jamaicaโ€™s most famous tourist spotsโ€”known for its waterfalls, lush greenery, and beach-meets-jungle vibe. Think tropical getaway, but with more culture and spice. My brother-in-law suggested we take the Spanish Town bypass instead of the usual route because of the potholes (seriously, Jamaicaโ€™s roads can humble even the best shock absorbers!). And honestly?…

  • Discover Camana Bay

    Discover Camana Bay

As mentioned in my previous blog post, I recently got a job at my dream company, a Swiss bank. It is located at one of Grand Cayman’s hot spots for tourists, Camana Bay. I remember my first visit there as a tourist, it almost felt like I’m back in Bonifacio Global City. The location is very aesthetic and it houses almost every essential establishment you could think of. There is a bookstore, numerous restaurants and cafe’s, clinics, cinema for leisure, mini gardens for picnic, and ofcourse the Fosters (the grocery store) is just a few steps away.  Definitely, having your workplace there is such a privilege. The entire location has state of the art facilities especially the security and data centre. Most companies there are wealth…

    Rub-A-Dub 90’s Cooler Fete

I’m not sure if cooler fetes are a thing in Asia but here in the Caribbean it is almost like every outdoor party / event there is. Basically it’s a party where you can bring your own drinks and cooler. I’ve been to cooler fete twice before and it was fun, especially now that I learned how to drink (sush, it’s only our secret). Almost everybody I know still thinks I’m a good girl, but ever since I hopped on that flight to this side of the world, I feel like I’ve been liberated (to be free without regrets, that is). I have no idea at all of the music they played since my exposure is only on the mainstream ones. Dancehall or soca was…

    Motherhood

Since I got pregnant and gave birth, I pretty much abandoned this blog. What a shame, honestly. This used to be my little diary, my safe space on the internet. But I guess Iโ€™m in a new era now, and any tiny pocket of free time I get, I just choose sleep. Or at least lying down and staring at the ceiling in silence. Having a baby is no joke. I have a whole new level of respect for all the moms out there, especially the single moms. This is hard. And thatโ€™s coming from someone who has so much support: a stable job with maternity benefits, a loving husband, and a supermom who will take over baby duties the moment I say โ€œMama, Iโ€™m…
