Happy birthday, my love!

November 25 is my husbandโ€™s birthday, and this year we decided to take the whole day off just to be together. Nothing fancy or over the top. Just us, spending time and catching up on the things that actually matter. Most of the day was already set aside for his checkups anyway. He was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and since Iโ€™m pregnant, we figured itโ€™s the best time for both of us to start eating healthier and paying closer attention to our health.

He was in the ICU at the end of October because of DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis). We were not aware of his condition. One day I just noticed his sudden weight-loss. He was lethargic so weak, I rushed him to the ER. DKA happens when the body doesnโ€™t have enough insulin, so it starts breaking down fat too fast, and the blood becomes acidic. Itโ€™s serious and can turn dangerous really quickly if itโ€™s not caught early. Prevention and early diagnosis really do make a world of difference, I thank God we caught it before it was too late.

Before his appointments with the ophthalmologist and internist, we grabbed lunch at Wok n Roll. I told him it was my treat and he could pick anywhere he wanted, and of course he chose something simple and affordable. Very him!

At the eye clinic, after some tests, the doctor told us his vision is now completely back to normal. When he first came in during the DKA episode, his eyesight got so bad that he couldnโ€™t even read his phone. He was prescribed a +3.00 reading glasses at the time. It was such a relief that after a month all is good nos. The doctor recommended blue-light coated lenses for work, so after the appointment we went straight to the optical shop and I got him a really nice pair. Theyโ€™ll take about three weeks to arrive. Thatโ€™s Cayman for you; everything has to be special ordered and imported, even lenses!

The next appointment was with the internist. I showed the him all the readings from the glucometer in the past 25 days (yes, I have a whole log), and he was pleased. He even told us we could stop the insulin injections and just continue with the pills. My husband and I was so relieved.

Because it was his birthday, before we went home I told him he could pick one thing he really wanted. He chose the new AirPods Pro, so we grabbed a pair and you shouldโ€™ve seen how happy he looked! We had some light snack at the Filipino bobba place in town called Mix & Match in a Box before heading home.

Today wasnโ€™t extravagant or busy or picture-perfect. It was simple and quiet, and honestly thatโ€™s all weโ€™ve ever wanted for days like this. Spending time together has always been the best gift in my life.

Happy birthday, my dear husband. Iโ€™m grateful for you, for us, and for our little family thatโ€™s growing in ways we used to only talk about. I love you! ๐Ÿ˜˜

As I was driving back home today, I found myself humming the tune of Oh My Angel. It is the official soundtrack of the Angel’s Last Mission: Love. The melody brought back all the emotions I felt while watching the series. It was such a peaceful drive back home, and I couldn’t help but appreciate the little things that make life worth living. It dawned on me that sometimes, all it takes is a moment to slow down, enjoy the view, and sing a nice song. It’s so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and forget to be present in the moment. That’s why today, I’d like to share with you the simple and mundane things that make me…

    Batabano Carnival

Since it’s almost carnival season (but has been postponed until further notice), I will take you to trip down memory lane with me in last years celebration! Batabano Carnival  is an annual festival held in the Cayman Islands every month of May. The island is home to more than a hundred nationalities, most (if not all) of which participate in light of community spirit. It is a cultural celebration filled with music, dance, food, costumes, heritage and culture, and ofcourse booze! lol. It is a pretty young carnival that has only been going on for 30 years (thanks to Rotary Club!) The highlight of the festival is the street parade composed of masquerade bands and *drumroll please…..* exotic costumes! Last years parade started from the Seven…

    Motherhood

Since I got pregnant and gave birth, I pretty much abandoned this blog. What a shame, honestly. This used to be my little diary, my safe space on the internet. But I guess Iโ€™m in a new era now, and any tiny pocket of free time I get, I just choose sleep. Or at least lying down and staring at the ceiling in silence. Having a baby is no joke. I have a whole new level of respect for all the moms out there, especially the single moms. This is hard. And thatโ€™s coming from someone who has so much support: a stable job with maternity benefits, a loving husband, and a supermom who will take over baby duties the moment I say โ€œMama, Iโ€™m…

    Saturday nights at Cotton Club

“Is there anything else you do on Saturdays aside from clubbing?” Short answer is, no! In this small island there is not much of a variety of fun activities to do on weekends apart from beaching so yeah. This is what “Caymanian kids nowadays” do most of the time. What I like about the night life here is that girls wear literally whatever they want without being judged or bodyshamed. As a woman that is one of the most liberating feelings you could possbily feel. It also keeps my creative juices flowing esp on outfit ideas and accessorizing. In the photo above I was only wearing a gray sports bra and an office skirt – but it turned out not so bad! ___ Anywhere with…

Planning a Wedding: My Journey and Tips for Future Brides

As I’ve mentioned in my previous posts, I recently got married. The journey to make the event happen took a year of planning, with many adjustments along the way. Today, I want to share my experience with you, hoping it will help if you are a future bride. Every couple’s situation is unique. In my case, I did all the planning from the Cayman Islands while the wedding took place in the Philippines. Fortunately, I have a supportive mother who handled the groundwork and a fantastic wedding planner with all the right contacts. It was a team effort that made everything possible. Before diving into the details, it’s important to note that having a supportive family and a reliable wedding planner plays a crucial role…

Five things you probably didn’t know about me

Happy Sunday everyone! Today I want you to get to know me a little bit better. I can be quite private in a way that I don’t really like putting myself out there, but this time I’m going out of my shell for a bit and share some of myself. This is part of my Coffee & Connect series where I talk about personal stuff, so you can check out the other posts if you are curious. โ˜บ Let’s begin! #1. When asked, I always introduce myself as full Filipino  I was born and raised in the Philippines by my Filipino mom. Technically I am only 50%, but the way I think, speak, and act are all 100% Filipino. Even my accent would give me away. Nothing…
